Joseph Chaplin Tops Day 2, Glazier Nipping at His Heels

• Taso 20: 4,000-8,000, 1,000 ante
Day 2 chip leader Joseph Chaplin - looking for his first gold bracelet.
Day 2 chip leader Joseph Chaplin - looking for his first gold bracelet.

Ten more levels of poker action are in the books as Day 2 of Event 41: $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em has come to an end. While the remaining players were unable to reach a final table, we were able whittle down to just 30 from the original 324 who began the day. After all was said and done, Joseph Chaplin emerged as our Day 2 chip leader with 1,085,000 in chips.

Day 2 was anything but predictable, especially considering that Hafiz Khan, the Day 1 chipleader, busted within just two levels of play! After suffering a large blow to his stack against Ronald Lee, Khan met his end after five-bet shoving all in and running into Lee's pocket queens.

Other unfortunates who busted early on include Josh Arieh, Carter Phillips, Annette Obrestad and Brock Parker, who busted brutally when he ran his kings into an opponents aces in a blind versus blind confrontation.

The eliminations came swiftly and before we knew it, the bubble had burst. Leroy Spires claimed the unfortunate title of "bubble boy," however, many notables hung on to survive the bubble and cash, including Tristan Wade (who busted just two spots after the bubble burst), John Racener, Layne Flack and Brett Richey.

Other eliminations include Lars Bonding (74th), Kennii Nguyen (70th), James Hess (63rd), Ryan Olisar (40th) and Ronald Lee (37th).

One of the more impressive highlights toward the end of Day 2 was our last-woman-standing Jackie Glazier, who is right behind Chaplin in chips with 1,077,000. Glazier had a big turning point after she scored a huge pot and took out Ryan Julius during level 19. Glazier recently took down the 2012 Melbourne Poker Championship Main Event - good for $98,107 USD.

Also heading into Day 3 are JP Kelly (742,000), Scott Montgomery (554,000), Fabrice Soulier (344,000), Dan Shak (330,000), Jason Koon (320,000) and Shannon Shorr (154,000).

Montgomery Muscles a Pot From Shorr

Scott Montgomery opened to 17,000 from early position and action folded around to Shannon Shorr on the small blind. Shorr re-popped it to 49,000 and Montgomery made the call.

The flop brought the {6-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{10-Spades} and Shorr led out for 45,000. Montgomery came along to see a turn, which brought the {5-Hearts}. Shorr slowed down and checked to Montgomery, who announced he was all in, which was enough to put Shorr at risk.

Shorr tossed his hand into the muck and has slipped to just 160,000. Montgomery is up to 500,000.

Five More Hands

• Taso 20: 4,000-8,000, 1,000 ante

The tournament director has just announced that our remaining players will play just five more hands before bagging and tagging for the night.

Buzgon Doubles Through Koon

Action began with Hiren Patel, who raised to 17,000 from under-the-gun. Directly behind him, Morten Mortensen called and it was folded around to Daniel Buzgon, who went all in for his last 70,000. Jason Koon called cold from the button, Patel folded, but Mortensen made the call.

The flop came {10-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} and Mortensen checked to Koon, who bet 82,000. Mortensen folded and hands between Koon and the all-in Buzgon were revealed.

Koon: {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}
Buzgon: {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}

Buzgon was ahead and would remain ahead as the {4-Diamonds} turn and {9-Clubs} river left him with a full house. Buzgon more than doubled up to 215,000, while Koon slipped to 560,000.

Morrison Doubles Through Shorr

Elio Fox opened from the button and was called by Kirk Morrison in the small. Shannon Shorr squeezed to 56,000, which got a fold from Fox, but not Morrison, who fell into the tank.

"C'mon Shannon...you don't want to tell me anything?" Morrison said to Shorr.

Shorr remained stoic.

"I'm all in," Morrison announced and pushed his remaining 200,000 into the middle. Shorr quickly called and Morrison was at risk.

Shorr: {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}
Morrison: {A-Spades}{5-Spades}

"Good call," Morrison said.

It was a good call as Shorr was well ahead, however, the {4-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{10-Spades}{6-Spades}{5-Diamonds} board paired Morrison's five up on the river and left him with the best hand. He doubled up and then some to 430,000 while knocking Shorr back down to 270,000 in the process.

Delannoy Eliminated

Niall Farrell went all in from the cutoff and was called all in for less by Pascal Delannoy from the button. The blinds got out of the way and hands were revealed.

Delannoy: {A-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}
Farrell: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}

The {4-Spades}{5-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{Q-Spades} board was no help to Delannoy and he was eliminated. Farrell, on the other hand, is back up to 154,000.
